Family's Rare Fossil Collection Going to Museum
PONTIAC, Ill. (AP) -- A Pontiac family's fossil collection is to be featured at the Illinois State Museum in Springfield.

The Pantagraph reports the Joe and Mary Jobst collection has more than 1,000 fossils of plants and soft-bodied aquatic animals. Some date back 280 million years. They will be in the museum's children's education gallery.

The fossil collection includes about 50 fossils of the Tully Monster. The Tully Monster is only found in present-day Will, Grundy and Kankakee counties.

It's an aquatic invertebrate that was about six inches long.
Joe Jobst died in 2006. He was a teacher and director of a Pontiac nature center.
