Orpheum Plans Major Fundraiser
The president of the Orpheum Theatre is likely both excited and nervous at something she admits she's never tried before...

"The big new is that I've decided to jump off the deep end and add another major event to our calendar, and do a fund raising event for the Orpheum Theatre."

But, Kate Francis says, it's not going to be at the theatre. It's going to be a black tie gala of sorts August 19th in the back yard of the Eric and Nancy Olson home on North Broad Street.

"We don't typically do external fundraising events for the theatre, everything that happens in the theatre technically is a fund raiser for us. There's always a risk in doing these types of events just like all the events we have at the Orpheum there's a chance that only 232 people show up and of course that would be good for this event."

That's around the number of people Francis is targeting to attend the $175 a person fundraiser. The Knox County Civic Center Authority Board signed off on the event Wednesday. Francis says a live jazz orchestra, fire jugglers, and other acts will be a part of the event designed to help mark the theatre's 95th anniversary weekend.
