Quinn Reacts to Void on Releasing FOID Names
(IRN) -- The Illinois Senate voted 42-1 Friday to prohibit releasing the names of Firearm Owners Identification card holders. The House approved the legislation 98-12 in March.

Gov. Pat Quinn says he agrees that the names should be confidential.

Quinn says he agrees with his State Police Department, which refused to release the names of 1.3 million Firearm Owners Identification cardholders.

He says he will review the legislation and "act accordingly."

This is an issue because The Associated Press requested the names under the Freedom of Information Act, arguing that they are government records that the public has a right to examine. The attorney general's office then agreed with the request, giving rise to the legislation now heading to the governor's desk.
