Quinn Still Not Big Fan of Gambling Expansion
(IRN) -- Will an expansion of gambling, just thrown into the mix this past week, make it through Springfield in the next 10 days?

Gov. Pat Quinn says he is against the kind of gambling bill that was considered last year -- new casinos in five cities, expanded positions at existing casinos, and slot machines at race tracks. "We're not gonna do that. I will never support that," Quinn said.

However, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has expressed interest in a casino there, and Quinn says he's open-minded to it, if he feels the proceeds are allocated to the public good, particularly education.

The five cities that were considered for casinos last year were Chicago, Danville, Rockford and Waukegan, and somewhere in the south suburbs of Chicago. So far this year, only Chicago and Danville are under discussion, with Danville Mayor Scott Eisenhauer eager to get a casino.

"I would tell him not to hold his breath," Quinn said.
