Bondi Building, Two Homes Recognized by Landmark Commission
It's National Historic Preservation Month, and as they do each year, the Galesburg Landmark Commission has awarded a few local structures for their preservation efforts.

The Bondi Building along East Main street was the only commercial building to be honored.

Owner Robert Bondi tells WGIL it's been in his family since the structure was built in 1928, and it still has much of it's original features.

"I think people look to the distinction of multi-story buildings. There's very few that are over two or three stories in Galesburg," Bondi said. "I think [the Bondi Building is] one of only three or four. Taking good care and preserving the history each generation makes a big difference. I think our tenants enjoy walking our marble floors and walls, glass block on the inside of the building, the old walnut doors that have glass opaque entrances going in -- all that's important to them, and I think they like that preservation."

Windows recently had to be replaced on the building, but the replacements chosen stayed true to the historical look and feel of the building.

Two residential homes were honored as well at 1429 Willard Street and 774 North Broad Street.
