Storms Cause Some Local Damage
FIRST REPORTED 5:30am 5/23/11 The same line of storms that has caused severe damage in Joplin, Missouri has left the immediate area virtually unscathed.

Tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings were issued during the evening hours Sunday as storms made their way through the midwest, but storm reports from the National Weather Service indicate not much locally in terms of problems.

The biggest problem seems to be hail. Spotters tell the National Weather Service that nickel to quarter-sized hail was reported in parts of Knox County Sunday evening. But, in parts of Henry County, the hail was bigger. Galva at one point reported golf ball-size hail according to emergency managers there.

Downed trees were a problem in some areas. One blocked the road for a time at U-S 150 near Dahinda according to storm spotters, and one blocked the entrance area to the golf course at Lake Calhoun along the Knox/Stark County line.

A funnel cloud was reported near Yates City Sunday evening by a resident, but is not believed to have caused any damage.
