New Elements Added to City Budget Process
The Galesburg city council will be trying a couple new things as they work on the budget for fiscal year 2012 says City Manager Todd Thompson...

"The new additions to the budget process this year will be the goal setting session and the development of a formal capitol improvement plan. The goal setting session is really key, it sets the direction for the development of the budget, our goal will be to put together a budget that supports the goals of the council. The capitol improvement plan is important because it sets out the long term vision of the capitol project needs in the community both in terms of developing new facilities and maintaining we currently have."

According to the budget calendar the council approved Monday the goal setting session is planned for June 17th and 18th.

Though some council members felt time could be better utilized in discussion the goal setting session, the council took a quick poll and determined it would remain as is; to allow members to individually present their goals and why they ran for office during the group during the day as opposed to writing them out before hand and finding commonalties.
