Illinois Asked to Join Nurse Licensure Compact
(IRN)-Nursing in one state should not be treated as different from nursing in another state, at least, that is the argument of lawmakers and caregivers pushing for Illinois to join a Nurse Licensure Compact. The compact offers reciprocity in a world in which some providers and their patients have relationships via computer or over the phone.

Connie Sunderhaus, a registered nurse who is active in a national case managers' association, says, "When nurses provide care telephonically, they are practicing nursing, which then establishes a need for nurses to have multiple licenses for states where the patient is. Remember, it is where the patient is is the key."

24 states are already in the compact.
