Bids to be Sought for Knoxville Plant Upgrades
The City of Knoxville is one step closer to having some major and required upgrades under way at its waste water treatment plant.

The City Council there recently approved the seeking of bids for the estimated one-million dollars worth of work to be done at the plant, including what engineers say will be upgrades to the plant's sludge screen and sludge press, along with some cleaning and painting of steel at the plent.

Knoxville Mayor Terry Pool tells WGIL the city continues to hope it can get a loan from the Environmental Protection Agency to pay for the work.

"We're very optimistic, we've had good responses from the EPA so hopefully you know it'll still go."

Pool says the city likely won't know about the status of the loans until September.

Engineer Kevan Cooper says the bids will be opened July first at 10 a-m, and will be considered by the City Council at their meeting on July fifth.

The project specifications have to be in place in order for the EPA to formally consider the loan, but Cooper and others have said they seem so far impressed with the city's paperwork.
