Mumbai Attack Trial Defense Questions Star Witness
CHICAGO (AP) -- Defense attorneys are delving into the friendship between a Chicago businessman on trial in the deadly 2008 Mumbai attacks and an admitted terrorist who's the government's star witness.

David Coleman Headley has testified that he worked for a Pakistani militant group and Pakistani intelligence. He's admitted scouting sites in the attacks that killed more than 160.

Prosecutors allege longtime friend Tahawwur Rana helped him.

Rana's attorneys scrutinized Headley's personal life Wednesday as cross-examination started. They asked him about dropping out of school, getting into drugs and working as a drug informant while trying to join the militant group.

Headley testified he wanted Rana to join the group, but Rana wouldn't because he belonged to a different Islamic denomination.
