Tentative Budget in Place at Carl Sandburg College
Carl Sandburg College has again been able to balance its budget, despite the fact there are still plenty of unknowns out there.

The CSC board Tuesday night tentatively approved the $15.8 million spending plan. It's now on display at the college until the board takes final action next month.

CSC Chief Financial Officer Lisa Blake tells WGIL concern continues over state funding, which has some good news on one type of state funding, and bad news on the other.

"The base operating money this year has turned around, it's been significantly better, at this point in time we are caught up on that money, unfortunately our equalization is equivalent to or about the same as our base operating money and at this point in time we've only received three months of the current fiscal year of that money."

Equalization money is given to community colleges in smaller areas, to compensate for the larger-populated areas of the state like Chicago and the suburbs.

Blake says other unknowns include credit hour enrollment and tuition dollars. Credit hour enrollment far outpaced administration expectations this year.
