Aldermen Say Goodbye
It was a night of farewells and welcomes at the Galesburg City Council meeting Monday night.

Outgoing Aldermen Karen Lafferty and Mike Lummis were thanked for their time served on the council.

Lafferty, of the Fifth Ward, tells WGIL it's been a long road, but a good one.

"In a way, it's a relief," Lafferty said. "I've given 12 years of my life. So, to know that I've taken care of the citizens that called me, that needed some help and I was able to give it to them, that's my pleasure out of this job."

Lummis, in Ward Seven, says he simply is moving on to serve in another capacity.

"I still plan on staying active," Lummis said. "The mayor is establishing a new task force for veterans, and I'm going to head that up. We're going to try and make things better for veterans in Galesburg and the surrounding area."

Both were presented with parting gifts from the council and both wished the best of luck to their incoming counterparts, Peter Schwartzman in ward five and Jeremy Karlin in ward seven.
