County Board Symbolically Rejects Extension Funding
FIRST REPORTED 6:00am 5/26/11 The Knox County Board has denied a resolution to enter into an agreement of support with the University of Illinois Extension Office.

The county collects tax money specifically for the extension office, but board Chairman Greg Bacon says with the new consolidated offices, he doesn't feel the money is serving the right people.

"This is just my personal opinion. I have some problems [with] the way some things are being doled out," Bacon said. "We're in a new four-county area. Knox County gives the majority of the money to this four-county area. And, I would like to see the main office hub stay in Knox County. And that's my only problem here. I don't necessarily like to see all the business coming out of Macomb."

Executive Director Lisa Fulkerson of the Knox, McDonough, Henderson and Warren County office, however, says Knox County WILL have a hub office, but only the University Campus Administration gets to make that decision.

"They are calling both McDonough and Knox hub offices," Fulkerson said, "which means that's where educators will be located. We will have full-time offices in those locations. But, there will be a full-time office in Knox County.

The county is set to contribute about $345,000 to the extension, and though the board voted seven to four against the resolution, Bacon says the office will gets it's money, but they couldn't agree with the wording of the resolution at this time.
