Remembering Memorial Day
Memorial Day is a holiday meant for remembrance, but that all too often is forgotten.

"The true meaning of Memorial Day sometimes is lost to many people. Too many Americans believe that this is the day that marks the opening of the community swimming pool, the start of a family vacation, the first bar-b-que of the year or a much needed three day weekend."

Doug Mustain, an Army veteran, was the keynote speaker during the ceremony at the Knox County Courthouse following the Memorial Day parade Monday morning.
He says Americans have only one duty on the holiday.

"On Memorial Day we honor the ideas and values those services members stood for, and died defending. It is fitting and proper that we gather here to honor those brave men and women who have given their lives."

After the remarks, members of the VFW and other read aloud each of the names of soldiers who have passed away this year.

In total 234 names were read and wreaths were then presented and laid in their honor.
