Man Charged with Attempted Murder Held Without Bond
A Galesburg man now faces seven felony charges after allegedly attempting to kill a woman over the weekend.

50 year old James Booker appeared in Knox County Circuit Court by video-conference Tuesday afternoon, and learned he faces three counts of Attempted First-Degree Murder, two-counts of Home Invasion, and one-count each of Aggravated Domestic Battery and Violating an Order of Protection.

Booker was originally arrested late Saturday night. Police and prosecutors say he stabbed a 37 year old woman seven times after getting into an argument with her around 7:30, and tried to get back into the home less than three hours later.

Investigators say they found part of a serrated steak knife in a bedroom in a home, while the victim fled to a neighbor's house.

Knox County Circuit Court Judge Scott Shiplett denied bail in the case, until an assessment can be done. Booker is being held in the Knox County Jail until an 11 a.m. hearing Wednesday morning.

He could face as much as 30 years in prison on each of five of the counts if convicted in court, and another seven years on the Aggravated Domestic Battery Charge.
