Knoxville School Board Member Bids Farewell
He didn't necessarily want to go, but a now former Knoxville School Board member says he's mostly proud of the eight years he's spent on the board.

Hillard Byom left the District-202 board last night after not being elected to another term. Tamara Myers and Brent Shreeves also took their oaths as new board members.

But Byom says for the most part, his experience on the board has been good, even if the times weren't.

"Sometimes it just isn't any fun at all, " he says, "and there's certain things that are really, just truly, a sacrifice to do. But there's a whole bunch of other things that come with it to good about accomplishing things and contributing to it. It's just a good deal all around. In a sick sort of way I'm gonna miss coming here."

Byom says he knows there were times his wife and family probably weren't happy he was trudging off to another school board meeting, but he appreciates their sacrifice nonetheless.

The other department member, Gale Trulson, did not attend.

Robert Bogard and Jeff Johnson were elected to new terms as board president and secretary respectively, while Patrick Callihan was given a term as board Vice President.
