Joliet Ceremony Set to Mark 1st Dairy Queen
JOLIET, Ill. (AP) -- Celebrations are planned in Joliet this May to mark the site of the country's first Dairy Queen ice cream shop.

On Saturday the Joliet Area Historical Museum will celebrate the Route 66 Red Carpet Corridor festival with live entertainment, children's games, a display of Dairy Queen memorabilia and free dilly bars.

Then on May 20 city officials will issue the official historic designation of the first Dairy Queen storefront. Representatives from Dairy Queen International are scheduled to be there, along with public officials. A plaque is to be placed in the sidewalk in front of the building.

The more than century-old building is now peppermint green. It's where Sherb Noble started the soft-serve ice cream monolith.
