Man Arrested for Sexual Assualt Five Years After Event
A Galesburg man has been arrested for criminal sexual assault, that allegedly happened five years ago.

24 year old Richard Garza of Galesburg was taken into custody Wednesday night on a Knox County warrant.

According to police reports, in March of 2006, Galesburg police responded to a home in the 800 block of Chambers Street for an unwanted person.

There police found a 16 year old girl who appeared to be very drunk. The girl was arrested for consumption of alcohol by a minor.

She told police at the time that she has been drinking since the night before with Garza, who was 19 at the time, and another friend. According to reports, the girl admitted have sex with them and had been given marijuana and cocaine as well.

The girl was taken to a local hospital where a rape kit was performed and sent to the state crime lab.

In December of 2006, results came back from the kit that showed two different DNAs were found.

As recently as last month, DNA evidence matched Garza with that taken from the rape kit and warrant was issued for his arrest.

Galesburg police officers noticed Garza walking in the 200 block of West Third Street and transported him to the Knox County Jail on 75-thousand dollars bond.
It is not clear at this point when Garza will make an appearance in court.
