Land Purchase a Goal for Library Board
The Galesburg Public Library is ready to move ahead with plans for a new building.

Members of the library board met Thursday and approved their three year strategic plan, which includes work to that end.

Board President Martin Reichel tells WGIL the board has committed to the 200 block of West Main Street where a hotel is currently be demolished.

He says the plan is to begin making inquiries about the purchase of land there.

"We may not be doing it tomorrow, but we need to move ahead with it," Reichel said. "We have to get some help on that. The board members themselves are not in a position to go out and make offers to landowners and that sort of thing. We would, maybe, get help from a Realtor, get some appraisals done. Those are the things we are looking to get started on."

Reichel adds that money is sufficient at the moment for such purchases thanks to the Galesburg Public Library Foundation fund.

The library is currently in a building on Simmons Street where they have been for about 50 years in what was supposed to be a temporary facility.
