Galesburg Now Home to Seafood Business
Seafood is coming to Galesbug -- or, more specifically, to its business incubator.

The Sustainable Business Center says the newest tenant is Sitka Salmon Shares. The company, according to a statement, distributes salmon to locations throughout the region, from the Quad Cities to Peoria. But they say they're different, in that they only work with small boat fishermen in Alaska to get the salmon, sold through what are called Community Supported Fishery and Community Supported Agriculture programs. They say the use of large nets to catch various types of salmon diminishes its quality.

The company's website says it works even greener than that. One percent of all revenue, they say, goes to habitat restoration and enhancement projects. They say they pay more to fishermen for their goods than bigger companies do.

A Sitka Salmon Shares official says they like the Sustainable Business Center because its vision and the company's vision are similar with regards to sustainability and supporting independent businesses.

While its headquarters will be in Galesburg, the company's website says it does have an operation in Alaska.

Five of Sitka's employees are currently at the Sustainable Business Center.
