Galesburg Man Pleads Guilty to Near Lethal Bar Punch
A Galesburg man suspected of throwing a near lethal punch at a tavern in March pleaded guilty Thursday to Aggravated Battery.

In exchange for the plea, two separate Class-Two Felony counts of Aggravated Battery were dismissed against 30-year-old Antonio Cano. He faces between three and seven years in prison when he's sentenced July 12th.

Back on March third inside Smitty's Tap in Galesburg, Cano forcefully punched an elderly man in the face. The victim was knocked off his bar stool and bumped his head. He refused medical attention, but prosecutors say the man was found unresponsive the following morning. The victim reportedly suffered bleeding of the brain.

Before Thursday's plea deal, Knox County Circuit Court records indicate Cano had initially pleaded not guilty on March 26th through attorney Karl Johnson.

In addition to his prison sentence, Cano may be required to pay up to $25,000-dollars in fines.
