State Police Takes Over Area Death Investigation
The Illinois State Police have been asked to take over the investigation of a suspicious death that occurred Wednesday in Henderson County.

State Police in Macomb say the accident happened around 1:30 Wednesday afternoon on Illinois Route 164 just south of Oquawka.

Troopers believe 72-year-old Howard Hathaway of Oquawka was a front seat passenger in a vehicle headed south on 164 when he apparently jumped out of the vehicle.

Hathaway was pronounced dead at the scene.

It's not clear how fast the vehicle was going at the time of the incident. And no information about the vehicle or the driver have been released.

Henderson County Sheriffs Deputies, Oquawka Police and Fire, and the Henderson County Coroner all responded to the scene.

Troopers say their investigation is continuing.
