Architects Green-lighted for Steele Design
It's all systems go for designing what's part two in the first phase of the Galesburg school district's $110-million dollar Master Facilities Plan.

The District-205 Board of Education Monday evening authorized Peoria-based PSA Dewberry to begin the design process of Steele Elementary School. After dozens of meetings, Building Committee Chair Barry Swanson is happy to have reached this point.

"We did have really good discussion with the implementation (and) core committees on the schematic design," Swanson said. "And (we need to) understand that what we are approving tonight is simply to move forward and that there can be some changes as we move forward with this process, okay."

Swanson did acknowledge a near hang-up during those recent discussions, the specs on humidification and a fiber optics cable.

However, he says those aspects can be further discussed throughout the design development of the $5.5 million dollar project-- construction of which should begin by October.

Also Monday night, more than thirty retirees, with a combined 685 years of District-205 experience, were honored. And effective immediately to the school board-- elected as President was Natalie Kessler, Vice President Tom Colclasure, and Secretary Molly Palmer.
