Coal Valley Man Facing Galesburg Drug Charges to Hire Attorney
Court records show that a 19-year-old Coal Valley man suspected of carrying a bag of pot in early April will be hiring his own defense lawyer.

Cody Battin was arrested the night of April tenth and charged with Possession of Cannabis, 30 to 500 grams, and Possession of Cannabis with the Intent to Manufacture or Deliver, 30 to 500 grams.

Authorities said then Battin was allegedly "popping a wheelie" on his motorcycle in the area of South Henderson and West Main Streets before crashing to the ground. Battin was not seriously injured, and a search of his backpack turned up 223 grams of suspected marijuana. He confessed to police he was trying to make $2,000-dollars off of it.

Monday, circuit court documents indicate Battin waived his right to a speedy trial and asked for time to hire a private attorney. Judge James Stewart set a Status Hearing for June eleventh.

Battin is out of jail after posting 10-percent of a $20,000-dollars bond a month ago.
