Local Wine Shop Tops in National Contest
So what would you do if you found out you were in the top three of a national contest?

"I cried, and then I screamed, and then I yelled."

That's what Market Alley Wines owner Susan Kaufman says she did when the National Retail Federation called her Tuesday morning and told her that her video was among the top THREE in the National Retail Federation's "This is Retail" online contest, along with businesses in Florida and Hawaii.

Kaufman will now leave for a NRF conference May 15th where, just a day later, she'll find out if she's won the top prize of 25-thousand dollars.

Kaufman tells WGIL she didn't believe she'd actually make it this far.

"The community is very supportive and this area has done very well in these kind of contests with voting," Kaufman said. "We were up against such big cities and stores, you know, I thought we would make it in the top-40. And each time we made it further I just pinched myself."

"I don't know how it happened. I'm just so happy."

Kaufman gets at least the third place prize of 10-thousand dollars cash and could get as much as 25-thousand.

She says she'll use her winnings to buy some equipment for the store, and possibly even try to help start a wine and entertainment festival in downtown Monmouth.
