Stolen Vehicle Found on Fire at Lake Storey
Galesburg Police are investigating an apparent act of arson after a reported stolen vehicle was found in flames after 4am Wednesday morning at Lake Storey.

A police report indicates a light blue, 2000 Ford Taurus, was fully engulfed in flames off an equestrian trail on the west side of Bursie Williams Park. A fisherman told police he suspected a vehicle stuck in that direction.

Police say the burning vehicle was located about a quarter of a mile down the trail in an embankment near the water. Because of the narrowness of the trail, a Henderson Fire Department brush truck was called to the scene to extinguish the blaze. Authorities say no person was found among the wreckage.

Records show the vehicle was reported stolen from North Cedar Street shortly before it was discovered. Police say they targeted the Lake Storey area to conduct a search because two other vehicle thefts turned up there in the last month and a half.

There are no suspects in the case. Police do plan to collect fingerprints from another vehicle allegedly burglarized at the same residence the Ford Taurus was stolen from.
