Knox College Celebrates a True, but Unique, Campus Holiday
The anticipation had been high, so Tuesday's announcement that it was indeed Flunk Day at Knox College came as a relief to the entire campus population.

Director of Public Relations at Knox Karrie Heartlein tells the WGIL Morning News the event's secrecy adds to the thrill when students learn it's Flunk Day.

"The students are of course anxious, I think there's been a few scares in the last few week or so, so there's been a few very early mornings for some of our students," she said. "So, needless to say, I'm sure they're very happy that today is really the day. (But) yes that's the typical way, the Friars get out there early in the morning and let everyone know-- but we also let the rest of the campus know by email and the facebook page."

And it's not just a day off from class for the students, many faculty and staff members aren't required to show up for work.

But many do, as Heartlein says some join students for the picnic lunch and dinner, and others may participate in some of the carnival-like fun. She says it's a true campus holiday, rain or shine.

Flunk Day is celebrated as a break in the action from the daily grind on campus as finals and commencement grow closer.
