Local Private School Expands with Building Purchase
A local private religious school is expanding by separating some of its students.

Galesburg Christian School has announced that it closed Friday on the purchase of the former United Methodist Church location on Hawkinson Avenue, and will be moving junior high and high school students there this fall.

Principal Joshua Griffith tells WGIL expanding is something the school was never really able to do before.

"We've grown over the past three years, and the past two years, we've really been kind of at capacity at our current building," Griffith said. "So we started seeking out some additional space. When the church closed, we inquired about the possibility of leasing the property. When they originally came back, they said no. So, we kind of started looking at some other options. Then, back in January or February, I was contacted by the church, asked if we would be interested in purchasing the building."

And that's what Griffith said the school's Parents' Association did.

He says some cosmetic work will have to be done to both facilities, but major remodeling isn't needed.

An open house at the Hawkinson Avenue location will be held June 19th from 11am until 1pm.
