Chicago Man Arrested on Drugs and Obstruction Charges in Galesburg
A Chicago man was arrested for drugs and obstruction charges Sunday morning after fleeing a vehicle during a routine traffic stop.

A Galesburg Police report indicates 25-year-old Phillip Cullins was the passenger of a vehicle pulled over at 74 South West Street shortly before 11 am. Cullins allegedly exited the vehicle, and walked towards the entrance of a nearby apartment. Police say he proceeded into the stairwell of the residence, despite being commanded to stop several times.

An officer then followed Cullins, who began walking at a faster pace, and deployed a tazer, knocking him to the ground. Records show he told police he was in a hurry to see his wife, and "send her money." Cullins ended up forfeiting to authorities $437 in cash, and a half a gram of suspected cocaine was also seized from his possession.

Cullins was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Resisting a Peace Officer, and Obstructing a Peace Officer. He's awaiting his initial court appearance.

The female driver of the vehicle Sunday was issued a written warning for failing to signal.
