Local Unemployment Continues to Drop
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says most of the state saw unemployment drop in April, and that was true in this area.

Statistics supplied Thursday by the I-D-E-S show the April jobless average in Knox County is a not-seasonally-adjusted seven-point-four percent -- a drop of nine-tenths from the revised March figure, and seven-tenths lower than this time last year.

In Galesburg alone, the April unemployment rate is at seven-point-nine percent, down six-tenths.

Just over 11-hundred are listed as unemployed in Galesburg, a drop of about 100.

In all of Knox County, it's at about 19-hundred, down about 200.

Warren County's unemployment figure is at six-point-three percent for April, down about 7-tenths.

The combined Galesburg-area Unemployment Average currently sits at seven-point-one percent, and marks the 22nd consecutive month the rate has been at or below the year-ago rate.

The figures continue their declines despite a year-over-year decline of non-farm payroll jobs in the area. Construction and financial activities increased year-over-year.
