Denial of Reconsideration of Prison Sentence for Drug Charges
An East Galesburg man will still be going to prison for the better part of 10 years for his role in a 2009 drug investigation.

Knox County Circuit Court records indicate a judge denied Wednesday a defense motion for reconsideration of 42-year old Joseph Villareal's sentence on charges of possession of cocaine with intent to deliver, and possession of cannabis with intent to deliver.

Villareal was arrested initially in September of 2009 after undercover drug buys were conducted at the LaMesa Inn on west Main Street. Later searches allegedly turned up over 13-thousand dollars in cash and and cannabis, among other items.

Villareal expressed remorse for committing the crime during a sentencing hearing in March.

The court says Villareal's defense attorney wants the right to appeal the sentence preserved.
