Future of Y's Executive Director in Doubt
Questions remain about the status of the man many know as the Executive Director of the Knox County YMCA.

Several sources have told WGIL in recent days that Linus VanderWyst has been let go after over a decade at the helm -- a time that has seen lots of expansion at the Carl Sandburg Drive facility.

But when contacted Tuesday, Y Board of Directors Chairman C.L. Cummings said he could not comment on the matter, though he appreciated the concern of the public.

But Cummings also discounted what sources have said, believing that, quote, "rumors are an unfortunate side effect of people’s curiosity and sadly come from no discernible source or authority."

Sources indicated that Sarah Brown is currently in charge of the Y for now, though that has not been confirmed.

VanderWyst is not listed in the phone book, and attempts to contact him were unsuccessful.

He has presided over the expansion of the Y's fitness center, several capital campaigns, and the addition of soccer fields.
