GHS Principal Bids Farewell
Sunday was the last graduation ceremony for the now outgoing principal of Galesburg High School.

Tom Chiles is leaving after six years, and after receiving his doctorate, is taking on his first role as Superintendent, in the Lena-Winslow School District.

But Chiles tells the WGIL Morning News he will remember his time here fondly.

"I certainly would not characterize it as non-eventful, it's been an eventful last six years, but in a good way," Chiles said. "(I've) just had some tremendous, tremendous kids that I've had some good fortune to work with at the high school-- great staff here, the administrative staff here has been very solid."

Chiles knows, though he's got his hands full becoming a superintendent, given the financial state of local school districts, and that of the state has well.

He says the legislature needs to act now in order to protect schools and keep funding in tact.

Roy Van Meter -- a former AlWood teacher whose mother graduated from Galesburg, takes over the principalship.
