Wanted Galesburg Man Backs into Cop, Eludes Police
A Galesburg man is suspected of eluding police and assaulting an officer after allegedly trying to hide from authorities.

Police say 38-year-old Robert Reeder Junior pulled out of his Benard Street drive Tuesday before 11:30 am and immediately entered a parking spot at Sully's Pub. Police suspect he was trying to hide because there are three active Knox County warrants out for his arrest.

A Galesburg police report indicates an officer parked his patrol car directly behind Reeder's green G-M-C to box him in. As the officer exited his own vehicle, records show Reeder pulled forward several feet before backing the officer and knocking him to the ground.

Police say Reeder then accelerated forward and smashed an unattended, brand new G-M Terrain. An estimate revealed $8,000-dollars in damage was caused.

The officer wasn't seriously injured. He regained his footing and deployed a taser, but it's unknown whether Reeder was hit. The suspect successfully dis-lodged his vehicle from the parking lot and proceeded erratically down Benard in the east direction.

According to authorities, Reeder is now wanted for Aggravated Assault of a Peace Officer, Resisting a Peace Officer, Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, among other charges.

The Galesburg Police Squad Car did NOT sustain any damage.
