Atlanta Businessman Eyeing Development of Galesburg Global Attraction
Sheridan McNeair's vision for Galesburg has progressed from a cultural center to a mega-convention center and eighty-room hotel.

For months, the Atlanta-developer and Galesburg native has been developing plans to redevelop the former National Guard Armory on North Broad Street. The city is reviewing his proposal to purchase the property, and a feasibility study has yet to be completed.

McNeair tells WGIL Galesburg is vital to America, and his proposed redevelopment offers a global business opportunity for the city.

"Doing a development in Galesburg would help be a model, perhaps for the midwest," McNeair said. "That would say hey, take your community and decide to do something with it. There are all kinds of avenues, you just have to get out there and decide and work. If you're going to sell something, then you got to get out there and sell it on a worldwide basis. That's what I'm in the process of doing."

"I want Galesburg to be a community where people say, 'look, we would like our community to be like this.'"

McNeair says he, quote, "hopes to be the biggest champion of Galesburg."

He says the redevelopment would reflect upon the old armory's vintage look and events could be hosted there as early as next year-- during early renovations.

McNeair is involved with the World Chamber of Commerce and is also looking at areas in Haiti to develop.
