Just a Table for Lake Storey Beach
In the end, the clock was not in the favor of the Galesburg City Council.

"Gentlemen I need to intervene here," Mayor Sal Garza said Monday night. "We're going to arrive right at our limit. I would ask for a motion to table this."

This after aldermen, while debating a proposal that, among other things, would fund the operation of Lake Storey Beach for the summer, learned that time had expired for their meeting.

Under city ordinance, meetings can last only four hours, with a possible vote on one 15-minute extension. With a 5pm closed door session last night, that meant the meeting had to end at 9:15, no exceptions.

At the time, third ward alderman Russell Fleming was suggesting that aldermen approve the city budget adjustments, with the exception of three items he said have not seen by aldermen before.

"I can see 45, 50 (thousand dollars) in software, additional $32,000 in revised Parking Lot D renovations, and $50,000 in the renovation of East Main Street improvements. My motion would include removing those," Fleming said.

That's after aldermen spent more than half the time left debating whether or not they could vote on the Lake Storey Beach funding separately.

In the end, aldermen voted to table the whole proposal, and will take it up again in two weeks.
