Revitalizing Main Street Requires New Approach from Knoxville
Revitalizing Knoxville's Main Street may have more to do with Galesburg than one would think.

The University of Illinois Extension Office's Elli Cosky provided her final recommendations to the city council Monday night. A market analysis provided by GREDA indicates Galesburg's edge over Knoxville in impact area-businesses.

Cosky says this should trigger a new approach for Knoxville as a whole.

"Knoxville has a great asset and that is Galesburg, but in some ways Knoxville needs to distinguish themselves from Galesburg," she said. "So how do you do that in a certain way, and how do you do that with the types of businesses? And how to lure a certain type of business to Galesburg and get a different type of feel than you would in Galesburg?"

Cosky says more service-oriented businesses like coffee and candy shops, antique shops, restaurants, and a grocery store would best suit the city.

The Steering Committee will grab hold of the reigns moving forward to implement Cosky's eight months worth of ideas for Knoxville and Main Street.
