|Local Small Businesses Get Recognition
|A Galesburg woman who's long been a part of the family business is being recognized for her contributions.
The Entrepreneur Support Network of West Central Illinois held their annual Small Business Day awards luncheon in Galesburg Tuesday. A number of regional and local small businesses and business people were honored in any of a number of categories -- businesses which included WGIL, recognized for our upcoming 75th anniversary.
But a longtime Galesburg drug store vice president was honored with the Business Achievement Award. Mary Burgland of Burgland Drug received that honor, and one of last year's award-winners -- Sherry Foster of Carl Sandburg College -- says it's easy to see why
"Mary's a perfect recipient for the Guy Vitale Junior Business Achievement Award because of her tireless commitment to giving back to community. She's served as President of the Galesburg Sun Rise Rotary, Director of the Chicago District Golf Association, member of PEO Sisterhood, she's committed to her faith and serves as elector and Eucharistic Minister at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church."
Mary's husband and co-owner George Burgland accepted the award on his wife's behalf, and says she's honored to receive the award, especially since it has the late Guy Vitale's name on it.
Among other award winners, Monmouth's Market Alley Wines was recognized as Small Business Start-Up of the Year, and Dave Dunn was named Small Business Advocate of the Year.
