Galesburg Apartment Building Damaged by Fire
(UPDATED 9:15 pm 6/16/8)

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fire Monday night at a multi-unit apartment building on Galesburg's East Main Street.

Firefighters arrived at the two-story building in the 800 block of East Main around 6:30 p-m, and Battalion Chief Craig Brady says the was pretty well contained within about a half-hour.

Brady says the building sustained heavy fire and smoke damage throughout, and the damage was more severe on the right side.

Brady says there are multiple units in the building, located at 818 through 824 East Main. He says there was at least one family living there, and everyone got out safely. A dog did die in the fire, and Brady says the other animals that were inside appeared to be accounted for and safe.

Brady says the cause of the fire is unknown at this time, and investigators remained on scene hours after the fire was put out.
