BREAKING NEWS: Conservation Order Lifted; Boil Order Remains in Effect

Things went from bad, to worse, to good in just two days time for the City of Galesburg's water pumping station at Oquawka.

"The power has been restored to the water facilities down there by our provider, Ameren IP," said Larry Cox, Galesburg Works Director. "We're able to pump our full compliment of pumps from the pumping station," Cox said.

Cox says that means the city's backup water wells in Galesburg are no longer in use, and a voluntary water conservation order for Galesburg, East Galesburg, Knoxville, Abingdon, and Little York -- all cities that get their water from Galesburg -- has been lifted.

Cox tells WGIL, a boil order, however, is NOT over with. "The boil order will remain in effect until the required chlorine levels are restored, and the bacteria tests all come back acceptable," Cox said. "It's anticipated that will be sometime on Friday."

Cox says the city's pools should reopen around 11 am Friday, assuming the boil order has been lifted by that time. Fire hydrant flushing will be going on periodically the next few days, Cox says, so that clean water can be pumped back into the system.
