Noise Reduction at Abingdon Hardee's Working

Officials with the City of Abingdon say they're making good progress with a noise-related issue that's brought residents before the city council a number of times in the past.

The issue is reefers on trucks running at all hours of the night while parked in the lot at the Hardee's restaurant in Abingdon. One of the more recent complaints to the city council was on May 5th, when a resident who lives in a neighborhood near the restaurant said the noise often woke her up.

City Attorney Jack Ball tells WGIL the city and officials with Hardee's have been working to solve the issue, and things are going very well.  "Right now, Hardee's people have cooperated to allow us to come on to their property," Ball said.  "If we see a situation where there's some noise later in the evening, and our police have asked...them to shut the reefers down, it's actually been working out really well.  All the people that are running the reefers in their trucks, at least at this point in time, have been more than happy to cooperate with us."

The city council had been contemplating making changes to the noise ordinance in order to try and solve the problem. Ball says the preferred solution is cooperation instead of trying to rewrite an ordinance, which can be time consuming and complicated.
