Felony Sex Case Against Former Galesburg Man Continues

A former Galesburg resident accused of picking up a woman and forcing her twice to perform a sex act on her while they drove through two counties will stand trial on the charges.

Knox County Circuit Judge Steven Bordner Monday found probable cause for 20-year old Dominique McClendon to be tried on charges of Aggravated Unlawful Restraint and Criminal Sexual Assault.

Galesburg Police officer Joe Luna testified at a preliminary hearing that McClendon allegedly forced the woman into his vehicle May fourth, drove her through Knox and Warren Counties, forced her to perform oral sex at least twice during the trip, and threatened to kill her.

The victim was later found by a passer-by near Saint Augustine, and was taken to Abingdon where authorities met up with her.

McClendon was arrested after allegedly being caught speeding in Abingdon.

Luna says evidence of the assault was taken from the victim's clothes and from inside the car, and that the victim identified both the car, and McClendon through his wardrobe.

Knox County Public Defender Jim Harrell argued that the case was simply a "he-said-she-said" case, at least until evidence has been processed through the state police crime lab in Morton.

Judge Bordner also denied a request to lessen McClendon's $150,000 bond, after Knox County Assistant State's Attorney Matthew Kwacala cited a prior felony conviction, a negative drug test, and a violation of McClendon's probation.

McClendon will be in court again June 11th for an arraignment hearing.
