Bishop Hill Music Festival Saturday
A historic Henry County Community is celebrating the beginning of Summer the way those in Sweden do.

The annual Bishop Hill Midsommar Music Festival kicks off at 11am Saturday and goes till 4pm, with what is being described as a strong lineup of musical performers.

Bishop Hill Heritage Association Administrator Mike Wendel tells WGIL Midsommar is a big celebration in Sweden. "It's one of the most popular festivals in Sweden," Wendel said. "It really ranks right up there with Christmas and a lot of different things. It's celebrated on the Summer Solstice, or near the Summer Solstice, on the longest and the brightest day of the year, and on the weekend closest to June 24th."

Wendel says this year's line up includes Ernie Sandquist, Black Hawk Pipes and Drums, Singer-songwriter Chris Vallillo, Rich Hartley and Jan Sams, Heritage Folk Dancers of Bishop Hill and The Cosmic Otters.

He says later on in the afternoon, there will be a procession that will begin in the park and end at the Colony School where visitors can join in Maypole dancing and have refreshments.
