Farm Safety Camp Being Held Saturday
A chance for children to learn how to be safe while spending time on the farm comes up Saturday.

The Knox County Farm Bureau and the Knox County University of Illinois Extension are hosting a farm safety camp from 9:00am to 2:30pm Saturday at Carl Sandburg College in Parking Lot C.

The event was to be held last August, but a real pesky windstorm kept it from happening.

Farm Safety Camp Co-organizer Pat Hennenfent tells WGIL being on the farm might look safe, but many times, it's not.

Hennenfent says farming is still very, very dangerous. "A lot of kids, over 100 kids last year, were injured in farm accidents," Hennenfent said. "We just want to try and prevent that.  And we have also taken it a step further, alot of the sessions we have are not just farm related. In fact there is only about two or three now that are actually strictly farm related." Hennenfent says the rest are things anyone -- not just kids -- can learn something from the camp. He says there will be a number of break-out session throughout the day, Ameren I-P is expected to do an electrical safety display, and there will be a mock accident demonstration utilizing fire trucks, police, and ambulances.

The event is free, but those who want to attend need to show up at CSC before nine o'clock Saturday.
