"Zephyr Dome" Committee Formed
It is now officially up to the public to decide what happens with the Galesburg property known as the "Zephyr Dome."

The Galesburg School District and the District-205 School Board have issued a statement saying that an independent committee is being formed to look into what should be done with the gymnasium at Lombard Middle School.

The gym, used in the days of Lombard College, was condemned years ago and is no longer used by the district.

The District says the commission is being headed by local resident Gary Tomlin, who also is working as a reporter for the Peoria Journal-Star and covers the Galesburg School Board. They say the commission also includes Galesburg Recreation Superintendent Roger Sensabaugh, Rec Department employee Elizabeth Varner, and is to include members from the Galesburg Historical Society and the Galesburg Landmark Commission.

District-205 Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations Paul Woelke says in a statement that no district money is available for the Zephyr Dome, but that the district could consider selling or leasing the property if a "viable use plan" is developed.

Tomlin uses the same statement to call the move "a positive step."

The committee has the end of the year to come up with a plan for the Zephyr Dome.
