Galesburg Celebrates Lincoln

A year-long celebration of Abraham Lincoln's life is being celebrated throughout Illinois. With roots from Galesburg, Lincolns birth will be commemorated in February of this year along with the 150th Anniversary of the Lincoln-Douglas debate in October.

Karrie Heartlein, public relations director at Knox College says Galesburg's Public Library is taking part in the celebration by making a book about Lincoln's history and all of the area fourth graders will recieve a copy of the book when it is completed.

The "Year of Lincoln" celebration officially kicked off during Knox College's commencement this year, and will end at the 2009 Commencement.

Throughout the year, local community groups are being urged to hold events which help Galesburg recognize Lincoln's contributions to the nation as well as his local connections.
