Former Galesburg Armory to be Used as Temporary Flood Supply Storage Site
The United Way of Knox County, Galesburg United Methodist Churches and the City of Galesburg will be coordinating with the Salvation Army to provide assistance to those families affected by the recent flooding.

The City of Galesburg has agreed to offer the use of the former armory building located on North Broad Street as a storage facility for supplies that will be transferred to the former Gladstone VFW site for distribution.

Kraig Boynton, Purchasing Manager for the City of Galesburg, tells WGIL Gladstone can store some supplies but it is not currently big enough to hold the items that people are donating. "Currently, at the Gladstone facility, they're using the old VFW Hall," Boynton said. "They're requesting that people do not just automatically bring items to Gladstone, because it's a smaller facility. They have a fear that they could possibly become innundated with supplies, so they're trying to keep it to a minimum at this point. They do need the supplies, however, they want to kind of coordinate with other agencies to do this."

Boyton says they are still taking donations including Non-perishable food items, baby, cleaning, and protective supplies, water and Gatorade-type drinks until July 12th. If you are interested in donating you can contact United Way or the City of Galesburg to make an appointment to deliver donations to the armory.

The City has yet to determine a permanent use for the old Armory building.
