Sumner Street Residence Damaged by Fire
Fire has caused plenty of damage to a Galesburg home.

Galesburg firefighters were called to what was described as an "over-under duplex" at 197 and 201 Sumner Streets around 10 p-m Thursday, but got the fire under control in under ten minutes.

Galesburg Fire Captain Todd Peterson says the type of home the fire started in could have made things a lot worse than they ended up being. Peterson says the age of the home could have left a lot of spaces for fire to just burn, so it was good thing the fire started in the lower level and not anywhere else.

Peterson says the fire was mostly contained to the lower level, aside from smoke damage throughout the home.

An investigation is ongoing, but Peterson says it's likely the fire is electrical in nature.

No humans were injured, but Peterson says one cat is believed to have died.
