Galesburg Meeting Results in Shorter MAP Grant Deadline
Potential college students looking for financial aid from the state now have less time in order to get their applications in if they expect to get any money.

At a meeting Friday hosted by Carl Sandburg College, the Illinois Student Assistance Commission voted to okay an earlier cut-off date for the acceptance of applications for MAP Grants and for aid through the Illinois Incentive for Access, or IIA Program, due to a rising number of applications.

CSC Financial Aid Director Lisa Hanson tells WGIL the deadline will come up sooner than you think. "In prior years, they've been able to fund students who've applied for the federal MAP grant through the end of August," Hanson said. "For this coming up school year, they're going to run out of funds toward the end of July."

ISAC officials told their board that this would mark the earliest applications for MAP and IIA grants have ever been cut off, and Hanson says students should go to her office in Building E weekdays between 10 and 2 before mid-July in order to get their applications filled out.

ISAC also learned Friday that, despite the downturn in the economy and less disposable income, enrollments in the "College Illinois" 529 pre-paid tuition program have increased ten percent in the last year.
