RR Days Official: Without Railroad, Galesburg "Would Be Geneseo"
The man in charge of Galesburg's Railroad Days says as far as he's concerned, the celebration of Galesburg's connection to the railroad will never die.

Opening ceremonies were held last night for the 31st annual Railroad Days, and Committee Chair Dennis Clark spoke about the seemingly persistent rumors that Railroad Days should be cancelled, renamed, or otherwise done away with.

Clark says as long as he is the chair, he's keeping things just as they are. "It didn't take a second to sit and reflect and say 'you can't. You can't,'" Clark said. "And it's not because of what we're doing now, it's because of the sweat of the people before you. It's because of your forefathers that came across the prairie. Because if it wasn't for them, Galesburg wouldn't be what Galesburg is. It's another town. It would be Geneseo."

Clark says everyone should be thankful for their community, and reflect on how important the railroad has been, and still is, for Galesburg.

He says sure the city has had plenty of tough times in recent years, but as far as he's concerned, he sees a bright future ahead.
